Maya Khachab Welcome Work Intern, NASH RRI

Maya Khachab is a Welcome Work Intern at the Refugee Resettlement Initiative. Joining the team in the Spring of 2024, she has assisted in conducting research and writing analysis, organizing and reviewing contact databases, compiling data for quarterly spending reports, and note-taking, among other responsibilities. Maya is a Junior studying Government & International Politics with a concentration in International Relations and a minor in Business Management at George Mason University. She centers the lived experiences of vulnerable populations, given that she and her family have been displaced during conflict. As a Human Security Fellow for the Sycamore Institute, Maya conducts immense research on humanitarian crises in the Middle East, analyzing the impact of government policies and suggesting solutions. Most importantly, Maya has been a leading voice for the student-led organization No Lost Generation at GMU, working hard to make her campus a welcoming and inclusive space for refugee students. At the same time, Maya is a Fellow at the Institute for Immigration Research, organizing data for the 4-VA Initiative, a Virginia database project of all beneficial services available for immigrants and refugees in the state. Maya looks forward to building a career either in refugee resettlement, public office, campaign work or law school, advancing equality in any way possible.
