The National Association of Higher Education Systems (NASH) is proud to announce that the Vermont State Colleges System (VSCS) has joined our growing network of member institutions! This partnership enhances NASH’s ability to harness systemic collaboration and drive meaningful change that benefits students and the broader community.

Meet our newest member system:

VSCS is comprised of Vermont State University and the Community College of Vermont. The system has a strong commitment to accessibility and student success, with more than half of its students being the first in their families to go to college. Each year, high school students across the state earn free college credit through VSCS programs, and there is a VSCS classroom within 25 miles of every Vermonter. Additionally, VSCS has undergone a recent transformation to unify its institutions under Vermont State University while maintaining campus locations and expanding educational opportunities.

Vermont State University operates five residential campuses in Castleton, Johnson, Lyndon, Randolph, and Williston, plus nine smaller learning sites around Vermont. The Community College of Vermont provides accessible education through locations across the state. This comprehensive structure allows VSCS to serve all Vermonters from associate degrees and certificates to bachelor’s and graduate programs.

As a NASH member, VSCS gains entry to our collaborative peer networks and action-oriented communities, time-tested approaches for tackling multifaceted challenges, system-wide research initiatives, and comprehensive professional development and leadership growth opportunities.

‘Systemness’—the concept that we can achieve far more together than we could individually—is the cornerstone of NASH’s work. The addition of VSCS and their innovative approach to statewide educational access, their commitment to first-generation college students, and their effective programming will help us leverage our collective power to create a more resilient and equitable postsecondary sector.
