Rising Scholars Coalinga College

In its Rising Scholars program, Coalinga College works with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and the one Federal Prison in its service area, Federal Correctional Institution, Mendota (FCIM), to offer face-to-face, for-credit Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) pathways for students within the carceral system. Training programs for faculty aim to help faculty better understand students in the carceral system, emphasizing cultural competence and sensitivity, trauma-informed teaching practices, conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques, and inclusive teaching practices. The Rising Scholars program offers face-to-face, for-credit inmate instructional ADT pathway education at zero cost to the student.
