First-generation Early Engagement Program Sonoma State University

Sonoma State paired an early alert system with first-generation specific programming. The effort includes a faculty learning community focused on those teaching courses with the highest non-productive grade rates and equity gaps in achievement. After implementing the intervention in Fall 2023 we found that 97% of those 56 students ended the semester in good academic standing and returned for the Spring 2024 semester. This is compared to 90% of first-generation students ending the semester in good standing, institution-wide.
