ENGAGE (Early Notification & Guidance for Academic Excellence) CSU San Bernardino

San Bernardino is leveraging student data to enable advisors to identify at-risk students to provide timely approach. Canvas data is used to create a risk profile for each student which is reflected in a dashboard that outlines risk indicators as well as available academic support options for each student. This intervention is particularly relevant as 87% of all surveyed CSUSB undergraduates indicated they would want an advisor to reach out to them if they were to fall behind in any of their classes. To date, the current Spring 2024 campaign demonstrates that of the 3,000 at-risk students who were targeted at the midterm, 38% improved from Risk Level 5 to Risk Level 0 within 3 weeks of outreach. As such, 1,140 students who were at-risk of failing their course(s) at mid-point, are now earning a grade of C or better.
