Julie Leopold Senior Improvement Coach

Julie Leopold is a NASH Senior Improvement Coach and Project Director for the process improvement strand of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities’ Excellence in Teacher Residency Project.

Julie refined her expertise in developing sustainable systems at scale over decades in the New York City Public Schools (NYCPS), the largest school district in the nation. Julie’s roles ranged from teaching students in her Bronx elementary school classroom to pioneering visionary policy for all New York City Public Schools. Julie founded and led NYCPS’ Continuous Learning team, which supported Networked Improvement Communities addressing the needs of English Language Learners.

Prior to joining NYCPS’ Central Office, Julie led a parenting project for England’s National Health Service, managed change projects for the University of Leeds, and facilitated change initiatives as a management consultant in Washington, DC.

Julie earned her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership at Bank Street College of Education, her M.A. in Elementary Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College, her B.S. in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and her B.A. in Communications at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School.

Julie holds a Permanent Certificate from the New York State Department of Education as a School District Administrator and was selected for the New York City Department of Education Chancellor’s Fellowship. Julie has given talks and led interactive sessions at national conferences, as well as published articles and edited a continuous improvement handbook and website.
