NASH Catalyst Fund Report Highlights Innovative Approaches to College Affordability in California

December 10, 2024

Washington, D.C. – The National Association of Higher Education Systems (NASH) is pleased to announce the release of its latest report, which provides an in-depth look at the growth and impact of the 32 Catalyst Fund awardees announced earlier this year. These programs, supported by a $220,000 funding commitment, were awarded to institutions across California’s public higher education systems and are focused on removing cost barriers to college, improving access to higher education for all students. This initiative was made possible with support from the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund.

The report serves as a valuable resource for other higher education systems facing similar challenges in addressing cost-related barriers. By highlighting the growth and impact of these funded programs, it underscores the innovative practices driving affordability and equity in higher education.

“We are excited to see the continued growth of these award-winning programs and their positive effects on student success,” said Jessica Todtman, Interim President of NASH. “These initiatives reflect the deep commitment of our member systems to breaking down financial barriers and offering comprehensive support to students. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive educational environment for all.”

The Catalyst Fund is a vital part of NASH’s Seed-Test-Scale strategy, which identifies, validates, and scales innovative practices that advance student success. This initiative embodies the principle of “systemness”—the belief that breakthroughs at one institution can inspire and benefit the more than 700 institutions we represent and the 7.5 million students they serve.

NASH is proud to support institutions that exemplify leadership and innovation in addressing affordability challenges and improving the educational experience for students of all backgrounds.
